Ms. Nilsson joined Blue Heron in 2011. Olivia came to Blue Heron from the New York Bureau of the Yomiuri Shimbun, which is Japan's largest newspaper (daily circulation: 10+ million). At the Yomiuri, Olivia covered a wide range of business, economic and market topics, with special emphasis on the automotive, financial and tech sectors. Her first day covering business news was the day Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy. Olivia also spent several years living in Tokushima, Japan, as a participant on the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET), run by Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where she worked at an academic high school and at a school for the deaf. Olivia holds dual citizenship with Ireland and the United States, has spent time studying in France, Greece and Egypt, and has traveled extensively throughout Asia. Olivia graduated magna cum laude from Whitman College with a double major in English and Classics, and a minor in French.
